Ernest Thomas has certainly had a charmed career in the entertainment industry.  His work spans from Broadway and television all the way to the silver screen. In an August 1996 issue of TV Guide, he was listed as one of the most beloved sitcom stars for his role of "Raj" in the 1970's top ten sitcom television hit, "What's Happening!"

In 1985 Ernest wrote a treatment for a new "What's Happening Now!" and made history.  Entertainment Tonight and USA Today considered the revival of this show to be unprecedented.  Never in the history of television had a show been a hit, got canceled, then returned seven years later to become number one in syndication.

Ernest was chosen by Bud Yorkin, producer of "All in the Family", "Sanford and Son", "Good Times" and several other top ten hits of the 1970's, to star as "Raj" in the sitcom, "What's Happening!" which was based on an earlier feature film called "Cooley High".

"Cooley High" had been such a success, that the idea of turning the premise of the movie into a sitcom was born and the title "Cooley High" was changed to "What's Happening!".  This show went on to become a top ten sitcom hit of the 1970's and eventually became more popular in syndication than in was on network television during primetime.

SOME OF ERNEST'S FAVORITE ROLES AND PROJECTS INCLUDE:

  • Role of "Mr. Omar" presently on "Everybody Hates Chris" on the CW channel.

  • Role of "Sydney X" opposite Denzel Washington in "Malcolm X"

  • Role of "Honey Camden Brown" in the Broadway revival of "The Member Of The Wedding" directed by Hal Prince at the Helen Hayes theatre.

  • Role of "Bravo Kid" in "Don't Call Back" directed by Tony Perkins, and starred opposite Arlene Francis at the Falmouth Playhouse in Massachusetts.  He received rave reviews and got the title of "Bravo Kid".

  • Role of "Deacon Witherspoon" opposite Grammy award-winning gospel great, Kirk Franklin in "He Say, She Say, But What Does God Say".

  • Keynote speaker on Muhammad Ali's world hunger tour.

Mr. Thomas is still just as busy as ever; currently writing two books entitled, "Conversations with My Mother. Food For Soul, Body and Mind" and his autobiography entitled "From Raj To Riches. Playing Hooky From God".

When Ernest is not writing or working on "Everybody Hates Chris" he is busy on the management and promotional team for the new R&B musical sensation "UNE" signed with Universal Records.  He also is working on several other entertainment properties that are in various stages of development.

Ernest says that his secret to success is "to put God first, study, focus, strategy, eat right, meditate, exercise, tenacity, 'NEVER GIVE UP' and last but not least 'GET RID OF DEAD WEIGHT (get rid of anyone who doesn't agree with your dream).'"  Love them from afar or as his mother would say "Treat them with a long handle spoon".

He believes that as a child of thee Creator, all of us are born to create and we can can do what John 14 says we can do. No doubt about it.

His greatest joy is being a catalyst in changing people's lives. He believes the greatest legacy you can leave on this earth is to do good deeds and transform lives.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
